A: The dual flush rebate is part of the NSW State Government’s Home Saver Rebate scheme. Sydney
Water administers the rebate program for customers in Sydney, Illawarra and the Blue Mountains.
Households outside of these areas that are not Sydney Water customers should contact the

efficiency rating?
A: You can save large amounts of water by installing a dual flush toilet with the highest level of water
efficiency. This means greater savings on your water bill and will reduce the amount of wastewater
that needs to be treated.
Q: How do I know if a dual flush toilet has a 4 star water efficiency rating?
A: Products and appliances that use water – such as toilets, washing machines, showerheads, and
dishwashers – must clearly show their star rating when advertised or on display in retailers. The more
stars an appliance has, the less water it uses. For more information on the Water Efficiency Labelling
and Standards scheme and the star rating of products and appliances, visit waterrating.gov.au
Q: Can I get a rebate if I only replace my cistern?
A: No, the rebate is only offered to eligible customers that replace both the cistern and pan with a 4-
star rated toilet suite. This is because 4 star rated toilet pans are designed to work effectively with
very little water. Less efficient pans may not work effectively with a 4 star rated cistern.
Q: Can I get a rebate if I replace my old dual flush toilet?
A: No, this rebate is only for the replacement of single flush toilets.
Q: Will Sydney Water accept a receipt from my plumber?
A: Yes. Sydney Water accepts tax invoices from licensed plumbing companies and individual plumbers
that contain the all of the information laid out in the program terms and conditions.
Q: I installed a dual flush toilet with a 4 star water efficiency rating before 15 January 2010. Can I
still claim a rebate?
A: No, the rebate is only available to customers that purchase and install a dual flush with at least a 4
star rating toilet between 15 January 2010 and 30 June 2011.
Q: What if I buy a dual flush toilet on lay-by or credit terms?
A: To qualify for the dual flush rebate all payments must be made in full by 30 June 2011.

A: No, there is a limit of one rebate per property.
Q: I replaced a toilet through the Toilet Replacement Service, can I claim a rebate for a different
single flush toilet I replaced myself?
A: Yes, a customer can claim a rebate for a single flush toilet they wish to replace even if Sydney Water
has already replaced a different toilet in the property.
Q: When will I receive my rebate?
A: Once your application has been verified, you should receive your rebate payment within 30 days of
Sydney Water receiving your application. Rebate payments will be made by cheque or EFT.
Q: I rent. Can I claim a rebate?
A: Tenants are eligible for the rebate if they have written permission of the landlord. This must be
attached to the application and submitted to Sydney Water.
Q: I am required to install a duel flush toilet with at least a 4 star water efficiency rating to be
compliant with BASIX. Am I eligible for a rebate?
A: No. You won’t be eligible for a rebate from Sydney Water if your property has a BASIX Certificate that
requires you to install a dual flush toilet with a minimum 4 star water efficiency rating.
Q: Does the rebate apply to new homes?
A: No. The dual flush toilet must be replacing an existing single flush toilet.
Q: I need my receipt. When will Sydney Water return it?
A: Sydney Water will return original receipts to you after the rebate application has been processed.This should be within 30 days of Sydney Water receiving your application.
Q: Can I connect my new dual flush toilet to my rainwater tank supply?
A: Yes. Water from a rainwater tank can be connected to your toilet for flushing and this is one of the
most effective uses for rainwater. This connection will need to be completed by a licensed plumber.

A: By replacing a single flush toilet with a 4-star rated dual flush toilet, households can expect to save
around 25,000 litres of water every year.
Toilets are one of the biggest users of household water and about a quarter of all toilets in Sydney
are single flush. A single flush toilet uses around 12 litres of water for each flush. A dual flush can
reduce this to four and a half and three litre flushes.
